TJB Strategy is founded by Hans Blonk who formerly set up Blonk Consultants, a leading LCA company offering consultancy, data and software development focused on food and agriculture.

As a biologist with a background in environmental sciences, ethics, and environmental philosophy, I am driven to optimize the human use of natural resources while simultaneously creating space for nature to flourish.

Achieving this is a complex balancing act, and its cornerstone lies in understanding how economic systems operate within an ecosystem context.

My mission

First, regarding the economy: as an entrepreneur, I believe in profitable business models that operate with the minimum necessary environmental impact. Profitability—or more accurately, value creation—is essential for all activities across product value chains, as well as the frameworks that support them, such as finance, standards, and enabling services. This perspective allows me to develop solutions that generate sustained business value that can be scaled up or out effectively.

Second, regarding the ecosystem context: nature and ecosystem services are fundamental to our survival. However, human life inevitably impacts other living beings and alters ecosystem resources. We must find the right balance through sensible and permissible interventions. I believe it is critical to understand both the hard and soft mechanisms, thresholds, and underlying value choices of these systems. Only then can we define the boundaries for economic development that leave room for nature to thrive beyond merely supporting human life.

Next to consultancy and development projects I invest in and participate in promising and meaningful initiatives.

This year I invested in and became expert partner of Foodpolicy, the leading network for sustainability professionals in the Dutch food sector.
